Chronomètre FB 3SPC.4-1 in Black Ceramised Titanium
Ferdinand Berthoud has introduced a new iteration of its Chronomètre FB 3SPC, this time in black ceramised titanium. This contemporary version features newly added crown guards and a textile strap, while retaining the signature cylindrical hairspring and variable-inertia balance, a complex regulating organ that took three years to develop for wristwatch format. The watch is notable as the only wristwatch with a helical hairspring and variable-inertia balance to achieve COSC Chronometry certification.

The Chronomètre FB 3SPC.4-1 is inspired by a historic decimal pocket watch with a cylindrical balance spring built by Louis Berthoud in 1793.
The cylindrical hairspring expands and contracts symmetrically around its centre axis, maximizing timekeeping accuracy by neutralizing gravity's negative effects.
The watch features a rectangular sapphire porthole on the left flank to admire the beating cylindrical balance spring.
The movement's German silver mainplate is black sandblasted, with six bridges on the front and ten on the back, featuring exceptional artisanal finishing and 102 exterior and 15 inner angles hand-finished.
The hours and minutes are indicated on a peripheral bezel ring with a black-varnished brass base and grey numerals, matching the small seconds ring at 6 o'clock.
The barrel has a slipping device to prevent overwinding the mainspring.
