The dial's bumpy texture is created by pressing actual Svalbard coal into the brass before lacquering.
Hour markers are shaped like teardrops, referencing the sign at the entrance of Gruve (Mine) 3 in Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
The 316L stainless steel case is heat-treated using coal from Gruve 7, a high-carbon anthracite, increasing surface hardness by 17%.
The watch features both Swiss Super-LumiNova and Swiss Trigalight GTLS tritium tubes on the hands and hour markers for illumination.
The case back displays a relief image of the Gruvebus statue in Longyearbyen.
The Jubilee-style bracelet includes a signed clasp with toolless microadjustment.
The bezel has a glossy ceramic insert with engraved, lumed numbers in an attractive serif typeface.
