Cartier has introduced a new take on its Santos-Dumont aviator's watch, featuring an 18k yellow gold case and a unique dial made from volcanic glass. The dial is made from obsidian, a volcanic glass, which presents a high-contrast, slightly grey, patterned appearance due to crystalline inclusions, complemented by gold-powder lacquer printing and metal sticker numerals.
The case measures 31.4 mm wide and 43.5 mm long, with an exceptionally slim height of 7.3 mm, featuring a combination of brushed and polished finishes.
The new mesh-link bracelet is designed in a retro style, modelled on early 20th-century designs, but constructed with modern durability and suppleness.
The watch is powered by the very thin (2.1 mm high) manual-wind Cal. 430 MC, a Piaget cal. 430P movement introduced in 1998, offering 38 hours of power reserve.
The "LM" designation indicates the "large model" format, though the case diameter is under 32 mm, reminiscent of vintage watch sizing.
