The watch, believed to have been acquired around 1950 and worn through Murrow's tenure at CBS and the United States Information Agency, is notable for its potentially custom features and provenance.

The watch is housed in a 14k gold Spillman case, which is described as incredibly uncommon, with only one other gold Spillman case known to exist.
Its dimensions of 38mm in diameter and 45mm from lug to lug are considered quite large for a watch from the 1950s, suggesting it might have been a special order.
The only part of the watch signed 'Bulova' is the dial, which further supports the possibility of it being a one-off or special order.
Murrow's son, Casey Murrow, has provided a letter confirming the provenance of the watch.
Photographs document Murrow wearing the watch regularly during 'See It Now' broadcasts and meetings with President Kennedy.
Unlike some of his other watches seen at social events, this Bulova chronograph appears to have been Murrow's preferred timepiece for on-air work.
