Urwerk UR-300 Time Quantum
Urwerk has introduced the UR-300 Time Quantum, a new watch that reconfigures its time display instantaneously at the top of every hour. Inspired by the concept of quantum leaps, the watch features a novel modular structure with rotating hour prisms that assemble into a T-shaped frame, moving along a minutes scale before a coordinated jump and rotation reconfigures the display for the next hour.
- Limited to 25 pieces per version
- Price: CHF 168,000 excluding taxes
The UR-300 Time Quantum features a new display architecture where two linear hour modules form a T-shaped frame, each with three-sided rotating hour prisms, that reconfigures itself every 60 minutes.
The mechanism involves the T-frame jumping forward 72 degrees, the crossbar pivoting to become the new stem, and all four prisms rotating to show the new hour, all in one coordinated motion.
The UR-30.01V calibre incorporates Urwerk's Dual Flow Turbines to regulate winding and manage energy for the complex jumping mechanism, balancing it against the power reserve.
The movement uses a Swiss lever escapement and a monometallic balance wheel, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour.
Parts for the hour display are made from materials including beryllium copper, brass, anodised aluminium, ARCAP AP1D, titanium, and LIGA-processed nickel.
Finishing on the movement includes circular and straight graining, Côtes de Genève, and chamfered, polished screw heads.
The watch is available in a Grade 5 titanium 'Titan' model and a Grade 5 titanium model with a PE-CVD AlTiN finish.
A safeguard allows for setting the time backwards by retracting a pivoting lever that moves the cam follower out of the cam's path.
