TAG Heuer has introduced a new iteration of its iconic Monaco chronograph, this time crafted from Grade 5 titanium. This version aims to make the historically significant and often large watch more wearable for a wider audience by leveraging the lightweight properties of titanium while retaining its distinctive design elements. The coverage provides a hands-on look at the watch, focusing on its wearability, design details, and the updated movement.
- Grade 5 titanium case
- TH20-11 automatic chronograph movement
- 80-hour power reserve
- 100 meters water resistance
- Price: €9,300 / US$9,350 / £7,900
The titanium Monaco features a fully brushed finish that accentuates the sharp lines of its square case.
The watch is available in a titanium version with a green sunburst dial, a two-tone titanium and rose gold with a black dial, and a full-titanium version with a matte blue dial and red accents.
The matte blue dial has a slightly coarse texture and features bright red accents, applied horizontal indexes, and square sub-dials with numerals that resemble a wide-screen TV shape.
The TH20-11 movement is an in-house automatic chronograph with manual winding, hacking seconds, column wheel, 31 jewels, and runs at 28,800 vph.
Despite the 39mm width, the square shape and thickness make it a substantial watch, but the titanium construction significantly reduces its weight compared to stainless steel versions.
The design references the iconic Monaco worn by Steve McQueen in 'Le Mans' and Patrick Dempsey at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
