Cartier: Crystallization of a Style
Melbourne is currently hosting "Cartier: Crystallization of a Style," Australia's largest exhibition of the Maison's creations, featuring over 300 pieces of jewelry and timepieces. The exhibition, on display at the National Gallery of Victoria, traces Cartier's evolution from its origins to its global expansion under the grandsons of founder Louis-François Cartier.
The exhibition includes over 300 pieces, such as jewelry, tiaras, timepieces, and necklaces.
Highlights include a 1923 large portique mystery clock shaped like a Shinto shrine gate, the first of its kind in the Cartier Collection, and a 1914 Model A mystery clock made of platinum, gold, and rock crystal with diamonds.
A 2023 mystery clock with a single axle, adorned with gems and obsidian, is also featured, showcasing Cartier's ongoing interest in this style of timekeeping.
Notable watches on display include an original Crash from the London boutique, a 1915 yellow gold Santos, and a 1920 platinum Tank.
The exhibition also incorporates local Australian elements, such as koala motifs and pieces featuring significant Australian opals, alongside items associated with collector Dame Nellie Melba.
Pieces worn by notable figures like Elizabeth Taylor, Rihanna, Princess Margaret, The Duchess of Windsor, and Dame Nellie Melba are part of the collection.
The exhibition is on display at the NGV International from June 12 to October 4, 2026.
