The Oscillator
Keris has created a kinetic sculpture called The Oscillator, designed to showcase the balance wheel and spring mechanism found in mechanical watches. This large-scale desk or bookshelf piece aims to capture the captivating visual appeal of a watch's regulating organ, allowing for a deeper appreciation of its intricate design and finishing.
- Sculpture height: 27cm
- Balance wheel diameter: 21cm
The Oscillator features multiple finishes including micro-bead blasting, brushed, and polished surfaces, with a polymer jewel and shock protection at its center.
The sculpture allows for appreciation of the balance spring's thinness and its terminal curve, details often imperceptible to the naked eye on a watch.
The piece is designed to be touched and requires a gentle push to initiate oscillation, highlighting the reliance on human input for its function.
An engraved number '1675' on the base signifies the year Christiaan Huygens invented the balance spring.
