Gallet's Return and the Battle for the Mid-Tier Watch Segment
Gallet, now backed by Breitling's House of Brands group, has relaunched with an aggressive pricing strategy, aiming to reclaim the mid-tier watch segment ($2,000-$5,000) that traditional Swiss brands have largely ceded. This move positions Gallet as a direct competitor to other brands like Frederique Constant and Longines, which are also focusing on value and quality in this price category. The brand's return signifies a significant attempt by the Swiss watch industry to re-establish its presence in a market segment historically dominated by Swiss manufacturers but increasingly occupied by micro-brands.
- Priced between $2,900 and $6,700
- Some models use Breitling B09 hand-wound calibers
- Some steel bracelets are the same as used on Breitling models
- Gallet casebacks engraved with 'Manufactured By Breitling'
Gallet's pricing is described as aggressive, with three-hand Flying Officer models starting around $2,900 and vintage-inspired 'Classics' models reaching about $6,700.
The 'Classics' models are equipped with Breitling's B09 hand-wound calibers.
Several new Gallet watches are offered on a steel bracelet identical to those used on some Breitling models.
Each Gallet caseback is engraved with 'Manufactured By Breitling', highlighting the manufacturing support from Breitling.
Gallet's relaunch is presented as a counterpoint to the upscale revival of Universal Genève, also by Breitling's House of Brands.
George Kern, CEO of House of Brands, stated that Gallet's success would not be possible without Breitling's support.
Gallet will be sold in approximately half of Breitling's global retail network.
