Australian Surfer Finds Rolex Submariner In The Pacific Ocean
A Rolex Submariner, believed to be a reference 5513 with a later dial, was discovered by Australian surfer Matt Cuddihy while snorkeling off Noosa, Queensland. Despite being encrusted with marine debris and having a jammed crown, the watch was still running when found, with its second hand moving after being rinsed in freshwater.
The watch appears to be a Rolex Submariner reference 5513 with a later dial, found with its band caught under a rock and the glass partially frosted over.
After being washed in freshwater, much of the sand, salt, and organisms were removed, and the second hand was observed to be moving, though the crown was jammed.
The watch has significant corrosion to the bezel, and the finder initially suspected it might be a 'Bali knock-off' due to its condition.
The surfer, Matt Cuddihy, is known for collecting detritus from the ocean and has previously reunited an Apple Watch with its owner.
The found Rolex Submariner is currently with a friend who collects Rolex watches and is arranging for it to be evaluated.
